JetBlue to Cut NY Flights Due to FAA Staffing Shortage
  • last year
JetBlue ($JBLU@US) Airways is planning to reduce its weekly flights in the New York City area due to a shortage of air traffic controllers. Airlines experience major flight delays during peak 2022 travel times, during which airlines cut their travel times to prevent congestion. CEO Robin Hayes said that while the airline will take a financial hit from the decision, it will relieve pressure on an already strained system. The FAA met with airline executives to discuss solutions to alleviate congestion in the New York area, following similar conversations in Florida last year, where staffing was increased. The meeting involved discussions on collaboration, communication, and effective scheduling in planning for potential delays.
