Cofounder and former CEO of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, was arrested in the Bahamas on Monday after the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York shared a sealed indictment with the Bahamian government. He is expected to be extradited to the U.S. CNBC has confirmed that the charges against Bankman-Fried include wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy, securities fraud, securities fraud conspiracy, and money laundering. The Securities and Exchange Commission filed a civil complaint against Bankman-Fried on Tuesday, alleging that he committed a “massive, years-long fraud.” Bankman-Fried was expected to testify virtually before the House Financial Services Committee on Tuesday, but his attorneys told reporters that he will not appear.
