Man plays saxophone while undergoing brain surgery in Italy
  • 2 years ago
An Italian man recently had a brain tumor removed during a nine-hour awake surgery in which he played the saxophone. The procedure was conducted by neurosurgeon Dr. Christian Brogna at the Paideia International Hospital in Rome. Dr. Brogna told CBS News that the tumor was successfully removed and there were no negative impacts on the man. The tumor was located in an extremely complex area of the brain. The surgeon revealed that the man played the theme song from the 1970 movie Love Story as well as the Italian national anthem. Dr. Brogna, who has performed hundreds of awake brain surgeries, said the key to pulling off complicated operations is preparation. Every patient is unique, every brain is unique, so we really need to know the patient very well, Dr. Brogna.
