FAREWELL TO THE 'SPRINT QUEEN'

The remains of Filipina 'Sprint Queen' Lydia De Vega is laid to rest at the Pandayan Memorial Park in Meycauyan Bulacan on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, De Vega succumbed to breast cancer early this month after a four-year battle with the disease. She was 57. De Vega won the 100-meter gold medal in the 1982 and 1986 Asian Games and ruled the sprint double in the Asian Athletics Championship in 1983 and 1987. She was also a nine-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist.
