Group of Ostrich in the Wild
Ostriches are exclusively found in the wild in Africa today, where they can be found in a variety of open dry and semi-arid habitats such savannas and the Sahel, both north and south of the equatorial forest zone.

Ostriches are fast and strong runners, despite their inability to fly. They can sprint up to 43 miles per hour and run at 31 miles per hour over long distances. They may use their wings as rudders to aid in direction change when sprinting. In a single stride, an ostrich's muscular, lengthy legs can cover 10 to 16 feet. These legs can also be used for other purposes.
