Documentary: Love in the Time of Revolution
Director: Chi Sing Nagn
2021, Hong Kong SAR China, 107 min
Echoing with voices from the streets of Hong Kong, the movie documents the passion, spirit and sacrifice of ordinary people during a time of political and social upheaval. In 2019, a planned extradition law sparked an unprecedented mass protest movement.
HongKongers marched by the millions to save what they saw as the city's eroding freedoms and rule of law. Their demands unheeded, protests intensified, and the streets became soaked in tear gas and blood as valiant frontline protesters clashed with riot police. Behind the frontliners stood a peaceful majority, committed to a hard-won solidarity as they attempt to save the city they love.
The movie takes viewers onto the streets, to the front lines, and follows the stories of just some of the protesters and their fellow HK citizens. It tells their extraordinary stories: the stories of ordinary people at a pivotal moment in their city’s history, as they experience hope and desperation, love and heartbreak, fighting for their home.
