Guy Carves Owl Out of Beech Log

A structural engineer carved this owl out of a beech log. He detailed it using hand tools and a rotary tool. When the back of the sculpture cracked, he filled the wood, leaving a part open for the wings. In the end, the guy applied wood stain and polyurethane to the owl.

01:33The log wasn't quite as dry as I imagined so I had to wait a few weeks for this crack to stabilize

01:39I've inserted a piece in here

01:41Just another piece of pine and again down there in the tail the wings

01:46It actually works in our favor seeing it split right down the middle

01:50And I'll form both wings and it'll show a separation

01:54So a little break waiting for all that to happen
