Could Marcus Smart Win Defensive Player of the Year?
On Tuesday friend of the show Grant Williams started the conversation on Twitter surrounding Marcus Smart and if he is the Defensive Player of the Year. The Garden Report crew debates if Smart has an actual chance to win the award this season. Boston currently boasts the best defense in the NBA and with Smart being their best defender many would think he should be among the league leader in DPOY votes. Smart weighed in on twitter writing: "Somewhere in the fine print for winning this is… Rule 47.1A 'No NBA guards without the initials GP are allowed to win DPOY'"

Gary Payton [GP] , the last guard to win the award (1995-96) while the only other guards to win DPOY are Michael Jordan in 1987-88, Michael Cooper in 1986-87, Alvin Robertson in 1985-86, and Sidney Moncrief twice in 1982-83 and 1983-84 (H/T https://www.nbcboston.com/)
