Only in human life can we execute devotional service, but if we give up devotional service for sense gratification, we certainly have to be punished. But this punishment is not like that endured by an ordinary materialistic person. By the Lord's grace a devotee is punished in such a way that his eagerness to attain Krsna's lotus feet increases. Then, by the devotee's intense desire, in the next lifetime he returns home, back to Godhead. Those who have taken to Krsna consciousness should be very careful that not a single moment is wasted and that not a single moment is spent without chanting about and remembering Lord Sri Krsna and His activities. By His own actions and those of His devotees, Krsna teaches us how to become cautious in devotional service.
