2022 Rivian R1S SUV

Rivian, a new electric car manufacturer based in Michigan, will release its second production vehicle in 2022, a seven -passenger Rivian R1S SUV.

The Rivian R1S is a direct competitor to the Tesla Model X, which is currently the only three-row all-electric SUV on the market. It will also be less expensive than the Model X.

The R1S pickup features many of the same characteristics as the R1T pickup, according to the company.

It, like the R1T, has a 135.0-kWh battery pack that Rivian claims can cover 300 miles on a single charge.

The R1S, like the Rivian brand itself, is a newcomer to the SUV market. Customers will begin receiving R1S vehicles in the June or July 2022

It starts with a $75,500 Launch Edition, but a more cheap Explore trim level will join the roster soon, alongside a more pricey Adventure model.

Although the R1S will be offered directly to users, Rivian says it will also establish a network of service facilities and Tesla-style storefronts.

Pricing and Choosing Which One to Purchase

At initially, the Launch Edition will be the only R1S available.

It comes with a number of basic driver assistance systems, as well as an all-glass panoramic roof and Wi-Fi connectivity for over-the-air updates.

Wait for the impending Adventure trim, which is similarly equipped, if you can't get one of the Launch Edition versions.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The battery pack, powertrains, much of the style, and many of the characteristics of the 2022 R1S are shared with its truck sibling, the R1T.

With up to 800-hp on tap and a claimed time of 3.0 seconds from zero to 60 mph, we can't wait to take one for a spin.

Each tyre on the R1S features an electric motor, providing it all-wheel drive and remarkable off-road performance.

At launch, all models will come with adjustable air suspension and a ground clearance range of eight to 14.5 inches.

Capacity for towing and payload

Every R1S model comes with all-wheel drive and an electric motor at each wheel, allowing it to pull more than 7700 pounds.

We expect towing to have a significant influence on driving range, so those who plan to tow frequently should choose for the model with the largest battery.

The payload capacity of the R1S is 1800 pounds.

Battery Life, Range, and Charging

Rivian plans to sell two battery packs for the R1S in the future, but the Launch Edition comes with a 135-kWh pack.

According to Rivian, this pack should provide a driving range of roughly 300 miles.

In 2022, a larger, 180-kWh battery pack will be available as an option, with a claimed driving range of roughly 400 miles.

Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy

According to the EPA, the R1S SUV will get 73 MPGe in the city, 65 MPGe on the highway, and 69 MPGe combined.

Those figures are lower than the Model X's best estimates, but they're comparable to the Audi e- tron's.

We haven't yet had the opportunity to test drive an R1S, much less run one through our 75-mph highway fuel economy
