This first episode of hack.history examines the Electronic Disturbance Theater, their FloodNet denial of service protest action on behalf of the Zapatistas in Mexico and a few of the other groups in the 90s who were trailblazers in the early net hacktivism scene like the Zippies and Strano Network.
We look at what FloodNet was, how it worked and what really happened when the Pentagon fought back.
At hack.history we look at the history of hacks, hackers & hacktivism as well as the portrayal of hacking & hackers in popular culture, in particular in movies as well as TV shows.
To bring together these videos we look at news from the time, FOIA documents, first hand accounts & various primary historical sources.
