Lobby groups are unimpressed with the current state of the Private Purposes Bill. They say the draft bill is unreasonable and maliciously limits users' rights. Parliament is currently under pressure to pass it. In 2017 the Western Cape High Court ruled sections of the Drugs Act and Drug Trafficking Act unconstitutional, and allowed adults to use and grow the plant for personal use in the privacy of their own homes.
