Call to rename Indira Canteen sets off political row in Karnataka

BJP National General Secretary CT Ravi sparked a row when he called for a renaming of the iconic Indira Canteens in Karnataka. In a tweet addressed to Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, CT Ravi said, "Rename Indira Canteens across Karnataka as Annapoorneshwari Canteen at the earliest. Don’t see any reason why Kannadigas should be reminded of the dark days of Emergency while they are having food."
Lashing out at Ravi, Congress MP Manickam Tagore said instead of renaming, the BJP government should come up with its own welfare schemes.
