Every year in February, Americans spend an entire month celebrating, commemorating and remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.
Originally called “Negro History Week”, the celebration’s week-long duration was originally chosen in 1926 to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln on February 12 and Frederick Douglass on February 14.
