My cat is at the vets for an operation and I really, really just want him back.

This is my 3 year old cat, Blasé, playing with a valerian pillow before all his health troubles started. He is the best cat. I know everyone thinks that about their pets but I'm still definitely right.

About 6 weeks ago he started having trouble peeing. I took him to the vets....urethral blockage. They had to catheterise him and flush his bladder, which meant a general anesthetic because no-one wants to try to put a catheter in a conscious cat for some reason. They kept him in for two days and he took about a week more to recover and got an infection which needed antibiotics.

Then he blocked twice more, within 5 weeks. The vet said the only realistic option was surgery. Apparently in male cats the open end of the urethra is also the smallest cross-section, so the treatment is to....remove that bit. Yeah. I don't even have that bit of anatomy and I don't want to think about it.

Apparently the surgery went fine but my poor cat is miserable even though they've given him the GOOD drugs and he's refusing to eat. He's eaten very little in 48 hours now and I'm worried that the last few weeks have been so horrible for him he's just decided life isn't worth it.

I'm not trying to get to front page and I'm not asking for help with the vet bills. I can cover them, just about, I think. But please, if you see this, say something nice in the comments. I'm not coping too well.
