SADC must act on Mozambique insurgency

Some security analysts believe the Southern African Development Community, has to do a lot more to stop the spread of extremist violence in Mozambique. Last week, a group of Islamic State-affiliated militants called Ansar al-Sunna, took over a key port in the country’s northern province of Cabo Delgado. Natural gas projects are being developed nearby, worth billions. The Human Science Research Council held a webinar on the situation, just as SADC met for its 40th summit of heads of state today, and it has agreed to develop an action plan to fight terrorism.
