Boy saves endangered eagle from superstitious Colombian villagers
  • 4 years ago
This endangered black-and-chestnut eagle has been rescued by a Colombian boy after it was found with injuries which prevented it from flying away when locals wanted to kill it for “supposedly devouring people”. The black-and-chestnut eagle (Spizaetus isidori) was found wounded among livestock in the rural municipality of Ataco in the western Colombian department of Tolima. It is believed it was being kept as a pet and had then been dumped when it started to become an adult. The eagle reportedly had an eye injury and was unable to take flight. According to a statement from the Tolima Regional Autonomous Corporation, the boy ran to inform his mother because villagers wanted to kill the bird of prey.
