Heavy rain hits southern part of S. Korea; more rain expected in central region

남부지방 낮까지 폭우…중부지방은 저녁부터 다시 장대비

After days of seeing heavy downpours here in Seoul, torrential rain is pounding the central region once again.
Our Kim Sung-min is at Jamsu Bridge, a low-lying bridge often used to gauge the level of rain in the capital.
Sung-min, how's it looking out there?
Dami, we haven't seen any rain here at Jamu Bridge overnight, and the water level on the Han river has lowered greatly compared to yesterday...just above 7 meters from 11 yesterday.
But we ARE seeing heavy showers in the country's southern region in Jeolla-do, Gyeongsang-do and some parts of the Chungcheong-do Provinces.
Heavy rain alerts have been issued in these areas..., which are seeing rain of up to 30 millimeters per hour accompanied by thunder and lightning.
In Gokseong city in Jeollanam-do Province..., a house collapsed due to a landslide overnight..., causing 3 casualties.
This region, as well as other southern region cities and Chungcheong-do Province, are currently under the "serious" level of landslide alert, which is the highest level.
Now, the total deaths linked to this year's monsoon stands at 20 with 12 missing and over 3000 refugees.
Train services in Gwangju Station have been completely halted as well from yesterday. Operation of the KTX and Jeolla Line trains which run between Iksan and Yeosu cities have also been closed as of 10 AM this morning.
And are we also expecting some more rain in the country throughout the day today?
Quite a lot of rain is expected in the afternoon here in the capital region 50 to 100 millimetres.
By tomorrow, some parts in the central area will have seen rain of up to 300 millimeters.
If another round of heavy rain hits the capital again, this could well cause major roads to close, so be sure to check for traffic updates.
Right now, previously restricted roads like the Olympic and Dongbu expressways are open..., but the Jamsu Bridge remains closed as the water level has not gone below 6-point-2 which is the level at which the road could reopen.
I'll be back with more updates later.
Back to you Dami.
