A company in the Indian city of Coimbatore have chosen to manufacture products from Areca tree leaves in a bid to tackle the single-use plastic epidemic.

Filmed on January 7, the footage shows the manufacturing process where the leaves are fashioned into recyclable utensils.

Areca trees are usually planted in the hilly areas for the nuts that the trees produce.

They belong to the palm family and are grown without the use of fertilisers.

Tamilnadu - the southernmost state of India has drastically seen a boom in eco-friendly businesses due to the state-wide ban on single-use plastics.
