Chennai and parts of Chengelpet, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur went into a 12-day lockdown on Friday to contain the novel coronavirus. Under the lockdown, only essential services are allowed. The restrictions, which had eased since early May, made a comeback in view of continuing surge in virus cases in the city and its peripheral districts.
