Imposing grey Arcus clouds tower on Thailand before tropical storm hits

Imposing grey Arcus clouds were seen towering over central Thailand before a tropical downpour battered the region.

Footage shows the roll clouds hanging still in the air in Nonthaburi province on June 8. Further footage from a secon angle shows the same cloud mass as it slowly dissipates.

Residents were amazed by the strking cloud formation. The filmer said: "The clouds were shaped like a battleship in Star Wars. I never thought I would see something so incredible right here in my hometown.''

An Arcus cloud, or shelf cloud, is a low, horizontal cloud which has two main types called 'roll clouds' and 'shelf clouds'. They normally form along the edge or 'gust fronts' of thunderstorm outflow.
