Staff at the District 6 community clinic outside the Cape Town CBD have downed tools due to a lack of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Jacobus Ingo, a nurse at the hospital, said all staff would immediately down tools until they were supplied with personal protective equipment and the facility had been sanitised.

South Africa is currently under a national lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus. The Western Cape province has the highest number of infections in the country.

The footage was filmed on May 14.
