Colour in Your Life featured artist Jo Headon appeared on Colour In Your Life Season Twenty One (21).

Jo Headon is an Adelaide Artist from the Fleurieu Peninsular.
Jo grew up in a family where she was always encouraged to participate in creative activities. Her father was a sign writer and she and her sister often went along on jobs with him. He was a very creative character - it was not uncommon for him to paint a mural on the wall in the house if the mood took him. At various stages they had a life sized matador and bull, a knight’s jousting scene, and the entire Spanish Armada. The Union Jack was painted on the ceiling, and the fridge painted like a red phone booth. To Jo and her sister, this was perfectly normal. She remembers being on a ladder and helping paint the Union Jack, so getting out paints and exploring varied subject matter was a frequent occurrence.
Jo Headon always painted, but took up study as a mature age student when she was made made redundant from her merchandising job. However, within a week she had another full time state merchandising job, so went on to study part time at night with Adelaide Central School of Art.
Jo’s visual merchandising and styling career has spanned 40 years during which she received many awards for her displays, and most recently awarded Merchandiser of the Year for the 2nd year running.
For the last 6 years, Jo has been tutoring for private Art Studios.
She is currently focusing more time on the exploration and production of her own work and future exhibitions.
From Jo Headon:
“The interiors and spaces I create come with a memory or tale of when, where and who. They are reminders of my loves, places, and treasures.
I try to mesh my stories in intoxicating prints, whether it be wallpaper, textiles or the patterns found in our natural environment. It’s by surrounding myself with these things I find inspiration for my work.
I allow the viewer to be part of an intimate moment between the characters, an interloper in a personal space.
Vital though colour is, it is just one of the components at play in my work. Light and pattern take their part. It is finding the balance between these different elements that brings life into the spaces.
I believe there is an energy and mood that surround every tone and shade of each colour and it is the exploration of these that intrigues and excites me.
If I knew where I was going I wouldn’t be going anywhere. “
