A hairdresser in south India set up a unique shop that doubles as a library of more than 800 books, and offers discounts to avid readers.

In Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district a man named P Ponmariappan, 38, runs his business in the Millerpuram area.

Ponmariappan, who was deprived of education as a boy, says that: "I think that reading is a very good habit and youth should keep reading good books."

He gives a 30% discount to customers on saloon services who read books and gives feedback on it.

He further added that: "I set this library six years back with only 5-6 books but today I have more than 800 books in my salon-cum-library. The books are mostly in the Tamil language, but some books are autobiographies in English of some great leaders from around the world."
