Minnesota unemployment rate reaches six percent

According to figures released by the Department of Employment and Economic Development, also known as DEED, Minnesota employers cut 7,500 jobs in October.
In October, the state’s unemployment rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 6 percent. The US lost 240,000 during the month, increasing its overall unemployment rate as well.
DEED Commissioner Dan McElroy said that “Despite the challenging job market, financial activities as well as education and health services continue to post surprisingly strong employment numbers in Minnesota.”
DEED has 47 WorkForce Centers around the state to help with career services, including 11 in the Twin Cities market. The centers can help with resume writing, job searches, career workshops, and more.
Employment figures were adjusted upwards by 1,500 jobs.
Losses during the month occurred in trade, transportation and utilities, manufacturing, construction, professional and business services, information, and financial activities.
