Villagers in central India participated in a dangerous 'fire war' as part of a local festival that left many injured in this striking video.
22 people were injured in the annual Hingot festival on October 28 in the town of Gautampura in Indore district, Madhya Pradesh, with footage showing burned and blinded individuals being carried away.
The festival held the day after Diwali, is a mock battle where representatives of two neighbouring villages throw hollowed-out hingots, a kind of forest fruit, that are stuffed with gunpowder and other incendiary components.
The festival continues to be controversial as despite government condemnation for its dangerous nature, many people continue to visit specifically to witness the firefight.
