The riot took place on Wednesday (October 9) as they tried to keep the truck from reaching the historical center of Quito.
Increasingly violent protests have spread throughout the country after President Lenin Moreno last week called a stop to fuel subsidies leading to a sharp rise in the cost of petrol.
