Costa Rica’s Fillinghim flaunts his chops in this highlight reel from Indonesia
  • 5 years ago
It’s only a matter of time before we see a male surfer from Costa Rica qualify for the Championship Tour. In fact, if the Qualifying Series were to end today, Carlos Munoz, currently ranked 12th, would be the last man in.

While Munoz is the most high-profile surfer from CR presently, he’s not the only Costa Rican turning heads. Enter Anthony Fillingim.

Fillingim has been dabbling on the ‘QS for a few years now, and he’s starting to figure out the formula. He made the quarters at the Krui Pro in Indonesia earlier this year (only losing to Gabriel Medina), and finished in the semis at the WRV Outer Banks Pro just last month. Of course, with those being smaller events, you’d be forgiven for not yet being familiar with Fillingim’s name. Let this edit serve as an introduction.

With shades of Sebastian Zietz, Fillingim drives through blue caverns and hucks over steep sections on a recent trip to Indonesia. Hit play to watch Fillingim’s impressive Indo performance, honed over years of practice in perfect waves at home.
