Locals clear debris and repair damage from Typhoon Faxai in Japan

The quay in Kanazawa Ward was strewn with fallen trees, rocks, collapsed fences and debris after being battered by gusts of more than 100mph.

Storms hit the region before moving south to the capital Tokyo in the early hours of Monday morning, causing havoc for thousands of locals.

Almost 20,000 passengers were stranded overnight at Tokyo's Narita Airport after Typhoon Faxai smashed into it with winds of more than 200 km/h.

More than 130 flights were cancelled while roads and rail links were also affected, leaving many without transport.

At least three people were killed by the typhoon and dozens more injured.
