Gigi Reyes 'too high-risk' for QC jail: BJMP

MANILA - A high-profile inmate and a high-risk inmate. This is how Quezon City jail officials see Gigi Reyes, former chief of staff of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile who is also implicated and charged in the pork barrel scam. Jail Chief Supt. Diony Mamaril, chief of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, said it would be the first time that the Quezon City Jail will detain an inmate who is charged with plunder. "Wala pong kapasidad para sa high-risk at high-profile inmate. Ngayon lang kami makakatanggap ng inmate na plunder ang kaso, masyadong mataas," he said in an interview on ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda. Mamaril also pointed out that the Quezon City Jail is already over its capacity. "Wala po kaming tinatanggihan na preso basta may court order pero ang kapasidad ng qc jail ay sobra na po. Nasa 800% congestion rate. 56 lang po na inmates ang kapasidad, pero ngayon ay meron tayong 504," he said. The Sandiganbayan earlier ordered Reyes detained in Quezon City upon her surrender last Friday. But the anti-graft court first asked the BJMP to submit a report on how it will secure Reyes. Reyes has asked the Sandiganbayan Third Division to allow her transfer to the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame. For now, Enrile's former chief of staff remains at the Sandiganbayan's detention area. A decision on where she will be detained is expected out on Monday. ANC DATELINE PHILIPPINES, JULY 7, 2014
