Second Day of Flight Cancelations Protests at the Hong Kong International
Airport began on August 9 and have
continued consecutively for five days. Thousands of protesters are gathered in the halls
of the airport, using luggage trolleys to block custom
checkpoints and strand passengers inside. The airport was forced to cancel flights on
August 12 and again on August 13, as check-in
operations were suspended due to the protests. Protester Vanessa Lee, via ’The Guardian’ Protesters are believed to have targeted the airport
because they do not think police will attempt to clear it due to the number of passengers and
tourists inside. Hong Kong’s police have been accused of using
increasingly excessive force, with at least 40 people
requiring medical treatment after clashes on
