Tejay van Garderen, the top American rider in the Tour de France, is out of the race after crashing hard. Van Garderen crashed on stage seven, breaking his left thumb and suffering multiple abrasions to his face and body. He crashed shortly after the stage's start but still managed to complete the longest stage of the Tour, says Business Insider. Heading into Friday's stage, he was in 33rd place, making him the highest ranked U.S. rider.
