Grocery Store Creates Embarrassing Plastic Bags to Prevent Customer Use A Canadian store that specializes in natural products has taken a creative route to encourage customers to bring reusable shopping bags. East West Market, located in Vancouver, has decided to only offer plastic bags that are emblazoned with embarrassing, fake store names. The campaign, launched earlier this month, has the slogan, “Avoid the shame. Bring a reusable bag.” David Lee Kwen, owner of the store, says the campaign has successfully caused a 30 percent surge in customers that bring their own reusable bags. According to Plastic Oceans Foundation Canada, nearly three billion plastic bags are used each year in Canada.
