Nike Releases 2019 BETRUE Collection in Honor of Pride Month In partnership with the Gilbert Baker Estate, Nike has updated their BETRUE collection to include the original eight-color LGBTQ flag. The rainbow flag, created by Gilbert Baker in 1978, originally featured pink, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue and violet. The 2019 collection bears the slogan, “BETRUE UNTIL WE ALL WIN,” and highlights various LGBTQ athletes and allies. Nike, via statement Nike also announced the administration of grants through the Charities Aid Foundation of America to more than 20 LGBTQ groups. The Los Angeles LGBT Center, National Gay Basketball Association and Hetrick-Martin Institute are among the organizations receiving support. The BETRUE Collection was initially started in 2012 in order to promote inclusiveness of the LGBTQ community in sports. From 2012 onward, Nike has released a new BETRUE collection each year during National Pride month, in promotion of gender and sexual equality. This year’s BETRUE collection was released in North America on June 8 and features LGBTQ themed footwear, apparel and accessories.
