Hermitude - Interview at Lollapalooza 2015

Two hours before they were set to hit the stage at Lollapalooza, we sat down with El Gusto and Luke Dubs of Hermitude to discuss their current tour, releasing their number one album, Dark Night Sweet Light, and their plans for the future. The pair are confident about their upcoming performance. “[We’re] feeling pretty good,” says El Gusto. “Pretty psyched,” adds Luke Dubs. “We’re slightly jet-lagged but we’re [going to] pull out the usual miracles that we do before we go on stage.” They’ve just come from performing at Osheaga Festival in Montreal, and say that despite many delays along the way, they’ve had a successful tour so far. “It was awesome… we had an amazing crowd. Just really great vibes, people jumping around, having a good time.” After several delayed flights, and a ten hour drive from Detroit to Montreal, the pair are relieved that they made it to the show. “It was brutal,” Luke says.
This year has been a defining year for the pair, with an international tour of North America on the horizon, a number one album, and the relocation of their Australian tours to larger venues. El Gusto reflects on the year, saying, “It was pretty bloody good… it’s been an amazing run.” Luke agrees, adding, “You have to pinch yourself every now and then… it’s ridiculous how amazing this year has been.”
Looking forward to the future, the duo say that they have already begun working on new music. “We’ve been writing a few ideas here and there,” says El Gusto. After performing at HARD Festival in Los Angeles, the pair will continue to work on new ideas. “We’ve got a week in LA… we’re doing more writing sessions.” From there, the band will also perform at Splash House in Palm Springs.
