Author Xuan Juliana Wang gives us an exclusive reading from her critically-acclaimed short-story collection “Home Remedies.”
Lauded as one of the most anticipated books of 2019, “Home Remedies” gives voice to a generation of Chinese youth rarely seen in English-language literature. From broke filmmakers to fuerdai, the spoiled kids of China’s uber-wealthy, the characters in her short stories capture the passion, anxiety, and pains of growing up in China today.
Xuan Juliana Wang was born in Heilongjiang, a province in northeastern China, and grew up in Los Angeles. Her writing has appeared in The Atlantic, The Cut, The Brooklyn Rail and The Pushcart Prize, and The Best American Nonrequired Reading anthologies.
