Lyft Program Aims to Combat 'Food Deserts' In their latest push into healthcare, Lyft has expanded their grocery access program to 13 cities across the United States. The ridesharing company first launched the program in 2018 in Washington D.C. for a six month pilot period. The grocery access program offers shared rides for $2.50 to a local grocery store in "food deserts." “Food deserts” are urban areas where purchasing affordable or quality food is difficult. In a statement, Lyft said they were committed to “stronger, healthier, and more equitable” communities. Lyft, via statement Lyft hopes to curb the effects of “food deserts” by providing better options and improving the population health.
