Apple Surpasses Spotify With Most Paid US Subscribers A report in the Wall Street Journal says that at the end of February, Apple had 28 million paid U.S. subscribers. Spotify had 26 million. Sources say that Apple has had a monthly growth rate that is 1% to 1.5% higher than that of Spotify. Spotify's global overall users still greatly outnumber Apple's. But Spotify's average revenue per user is declining even as the service continues to grow. Apple Music has also taken the lead over Spotify and YouTube Premium in India. Spotify recently filed a complaint against Apple in Europe, claiming the company is operating unfairly.
