Betsy DeVos Proposes Deep Cuts to Department of Education Budget Education Secretary Devos’ budget calls for more than $7 billion in funding to be cut from the Educational Department. The proposed plan would specifically cut $17.6 million from the Special Olympics. It would also see a 26% reduction to state grants for special education, as well as cut millions from programs dedicated to blind students. She has repeatedly referred to these grants as redundant and ineffective.
