Countries Ground Boeing Aircraft After Fatal Ethiopia Crash The type of aircraft that crashed was a Boeing 737 MAX 8. Last October, 189 people were killed when another MAX 8 plane with Lion Air crashed. The most recent crash with Ethiopian Airlines left 157 dead. China, Indonesia and Singapore have now ordered all of their MAX 8 planes to be grounded. U.S. airlines who use the aircraft are currently saying they have no plans to do that.
