Amazon's 'Lord of the Rings' Reveals Series Setting There were rumors that the show would focus on a younger version of Viggo Mortenson's character, Aragorn. It has since been revealed that the highly-anticipated series will take place in the "Second Age," which occurred thousands of years before the events in the 'Lord of the Rings' movies. Aragorn was born in the "Third age," so he will most likely not appear in the show. In a teaser, Amazon released maps that depict where the show will take place. The "Second Age" ended with the defeat of the Dark Lord Sauron after he created the Ring of Power. It also contains events like the creation of Rivendell, the ancient city of the Elves. Casting for the fantasy epic has not yet been revealed.
