The Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala, Kerala is one of the few Hindu temples in India that is open to all faiths. In a historic verdict given by the Supreme Court in the Sabarimala Temple case, the apex court lifted a century-old ban that prohibited women from entering the temple. The landmark verdict was given by a five-judge bench comprising of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and comprising Justices RF Nariman, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra. While reading out the verdict in Sabarimala temple case, CJI Dipak Misra said that the women belong to all age groups will be allowed to enter Kerala’s Sabarimala temple.
