For years Sharad Yadav, the 67-year-old JD-U national president, silently remained in the shadows of Nitish Kumar, who ruled Bihar with an iron hand.
Though Sharad Yadav was at the top of JD-U's pecking order as party's national president, he remained just a figurehead and dependent on Nitish Kumar to stay relevant in national politics. Worse still, he knew that everyone knew about his powerless stature in the party, but the socialist veteran lived with the ignominy for years in the absence of viable options.
