'Coming to America 2' to Be Released in August 2020 The anticipated sequel to 1988's Coming to America was confirmed by Murphy in a statement. Murphy will return in his role as Prince Akeem. In the original, Akeem travels to America to escape an arranged marriage and find a wife. It's not yet known whether the film's other stars, including James Earl Jones, will return to their roles.
