This Shakti Peethas is considered one of the six sacred places where the devotees can either attain salvation or have the desires fulfilled. The Maharashtrian devotees have a strong faith in the goddess and also believe that she is their savior in every way.

1 Shri Mahalakshmi or Karavirvasini Amba Bai Temple of Kolhapur is one of the Shakti Peethas mentioned in many Hindu scriptures.
2 Only few people know that the other name of Mahalaxmi that is Karveer Nivasini Aai Ambabai is taken from Amba Bai, the consort of Shiva.
3 Well known as Shri Peetham, the temple showcases beautiful figures and designs carved in the massive stone structure.
4 It was first built in the 7th century and architecturally belongs to the Chalukya empire.
5 Although the famous folklore states that when this goddess settled in Kolhapur, she had no place to stay and so her loyal servants built her a big temple.
6 The Goddess Mahalakshmi is described as the Goddess of power and her main deity made of black stone is considered to be over 5000 to 6000 years old.
7 The other shrines in the courtyard of the temple are dedicated to each Navagraha, Lord Surya, Goddess Mahishasuramardini, Lord Vitthal and his consort Rakhumai, Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Tulja Bhavani and many other deities.
8 The four armed idol of the goddess is daily worshiped and adorned with fine gold ornaments and affluent attires, especially during the Alankar Pujan.
9 Kirnotsava is another auspicious event that is celebrated each time when the sunrays fall directly on the feet of the deity from a small opening in the wall.
