Damaru or Damroo is an Indian sacred musical instrument that looks like a small two-sided folk drum.

It is commonly seen used by Indian street puppeteers called Madari while showing tricks with animals.

In Hinduism, this instrument is closely related to Lord Shiva and can be seen in every representation of Shiva.

It is considered to be one of the main attributes of Lord Shiva during his performance of the cosmic dance of Tandava.

The sound or Dhwani originated from this hourglass-shaped drum is viewed as a symbol of Shunyata (the Sanskrit word for emptiness).

It is believed that when played with deep devotion the Damaru generates spiritual vibes.

Typically made of wood or brass, the traditional Tibetan Damaru is also made of human skulls.

Traditionally, it is used by the Kapalikas (an ancient sect of Shaivism) as an emblem.
