1. Among all of the Shodashopachara (sixteen services) offered to the deities during Puja, five services receive more attention than the rest.
2. These five services are together referred to as the Pancha Upachar, which include Gandha, Pushpa, Dhoopa, Deepa, and Naivedya.
3. These services engage with the five prominent senses which are touch, hearing, smell, sight and taste.
4. Touch - Gandha is where one apply fresh sandalwood paste on the different parts of the idol.
5. Hearing - Pushpa involves offering fresh flowers while chanting and recitation the deity’s names.
6. Smell- Dhoopa is spreading the refreshing incense smoke throughout the entire temple or Yagna (altar).
7. Sight - Deepa concerns with waving a lamp to illuminate the adorned deity and brings out the beauty of the icon to our sight.
8. Taste - Naivedya is where the deity is offering food which is later eaten as Prasad. Hope you like this video and to get more updates like this stay tuned with us.
