1 Theertha or Theertham can basically be translated as holy water or a water body related with a temple or deity.

2 In Hinduism, it specifically stands for holy water or any kind liquid provided as Prasad to the devotees.

3 Most of the Hindu temples are located next to different water bodies, typically a river, well or tanks.

4 In the temples, the water generally used to bath the idols of a precise deity is collected and devotional offering.

5 There is a strong cultural belief in India that this holy water been energized due to the contact of the main idol.

6 Thulasi Theertham is holy water with tulsi leaf immersed in it, which is credited to be equivalent to holy water of Ganga river.

7 It is recommended to drinking this water or Theertha daily as it is supposed to give all good benefits for mind and body.

8 One needs to use their right hand while offering and receiving the Theertha.

9 Devotees also recite this Stotra (hymn) before intake of the holy water;
“Prathamam Deha Sudyartham Dwithiyam Athma Sudthikam. Thritheeyam Moksha Sidhyartham Theerth Thapra Sanalakshanam”
