The reincarnation of the hit show about West Hollywood lesbians has been in development for over a year. Showtime recently announced that the long-awaited sequel has gotten the green light. Popular characters Shane, Alice and Bette, played by Katherine Moennig, Leisha Hailey and Jennfier Beals, will be returning. The familiar characters will serve to bridge the older series to the new one. Marja-Lewis Ryan will executive produce along with Ilene Chaiken, Moennig, Hailey and Beals. Gary Levine, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks, via Deadline 'The L Word' is widely considered to be the first drama to focus on the lives of lesbian characters.
