Measles Outbreak Prompts State of Emergency in Washington State The state currently has 35 confirmed cases of the infectious disease. Gov. Jay Inslee declared the emergency on Friday. The declaration allows state resources to "assist affected areas." Measles was considered eliminated from the U.S. almost 20 years ago. A recent rise in unvaccinated children is thought to attribute to outbreaks of the disease.
